Tip For Removing Tomato Skins Easily!

When you prepare a dish with tomato sauce such as pasta, ratatouille, or even for fresh salads or pico de gallo, flavors will always be stronger when using fresh tomatoes. Clearly, there is absolutely no comparison possible between using fresh tomatoes instead of canned tomatoes! First, you should check the amount of sodium in cans, it is quite alarming! Secondly, it is recognized that eating food packaged in cans is far from being the healthiest option.
So why don’t we use fresh tomatoes more often? Maybe it might seem like a lot of work to peel tomatoes but the tomato skin will certainly get separated from the flesh and swim in your sauce if not removed! Surprisingly, it is in fact so easy to peel tomatoes. The process is called “blanching tomatoes”.
First Step:
  • Choose a large bowl or deep dish
  • Place your tomatoes flat in the dish (root down)
  • Use a sharp knife and slice slightly the round top of your tomatoes in a cross way
  • Cover the tomatoes with boiling water
  • Cover the dish for 10 minutes
Second Step:
  • Drain the hot water and replace it with cold water
  • Add ice cubes (it will stop the cooking process)
  • Leave the tomatoes in the icy water for 5 minutes
  • Remove the tomatoes and you will notice how easy it is now to peel off the skin with your fingers!
In conclusion, just skip canned tomatoes and use fresh tomatoes as much as you can!
